My sister and I have always loved mango shakes ever since we were kids. We would eagerly wait for the summer season to arrive because that was when mangoes are especially ripe and sweet and most abundant. For only half a dollar a kilogram, we could make as much mango shakes as we want to have. And it surely was not just one time that we’ve asked ourselves, who invented the blender? Because if not for this ingenious time-saving device, we would have exhausted both our arms, and used up all the time in our afternoons in blending all the ingredients just to have a taste of that refreshing mango shake.

Yes, I am talking about that tall container that looks like a pitcher and which has sharp spinning blades on the bottom of it. You can just throw in your favorite fruit or vegetable or any food item you want and this electric appliance will chop, grind, and puree them in an instant. Can you imagine the comfort of not having to do all those work manually?

I couldn’t be thankful enough to that brilliant mind of the Stevens Electric Company owner who invented the blender in 1922. A Polish entrepreneur, Stephen J. Poplawski intended his first electric blender for making soda fountain drinks such as malts and milk shakes at Horlick’s. The patents for this machine which liquefies food and beverages were obtained in 1932.

In 1937, Frederick Osius took Poplawski’s idea to Fred Waring and asked for financial assistance in making improvements for the blender. It was said that Waring had ulcer problems, aside from the fact that he adores new inventions, and thought that the blender can aid in the implementation of the specific diet that his doctor had prescribed him. He financed the research and marketed the product through the Waring Corporation. Osius first called it the Miracle Mixer. After a year, Osius renamed the product after Waring and the famous Waring Blender was born. Over a million Waring Blender has been sold to consumers by the middle part of the 20th century.

Waring even emphasized the brilliance of his product to a St. Louis reporter and said, “…this mixer is going to revolutionize American drinks.” And indeed, it became a household name. But that’s not all to it. The blender may have been famous for making sweet concoctions such as thick shakes and malts. It was also not just meant to serve as a dietary aid for people who have health problems such as Waring. The blender has become an extremely useful tool in doing vital scientific researches in laboratories. This ingenious machine was even used by Dr. Jonas Salk while working on the vaccine for polio.

And then, Stevens Electric Company was purchased by John Oster in 1946 with the intention of changing his line of business from barber equipment to small house electrical appliances. Not too long after that, Oster introduced the first Osterizer blender.

Nowadays, having your own blender at home is considered as a must have. This is because everyone will enjoy sipping their own homemade smoothie, milkshake or even alcoholic drink. If you are don’t know how to buy a blender, then that might be some trouble. But don’t worry, this article will teach you everything you need to know about this topic.

Blender Types

The first thing you need to know about blenders is that there are a few different types of blenders available as well as those that have different functions.

Jar Blenders- these are the popular blender type that has a variety of features, capabilities and prices which depend on the function, power and the design of the blade.

Multifunction Blenders- this type of blender is more useful but is more expensive.

Hand Blender- usually only has the basic blender features such as puree, mix and blend. Most of these blenders are cordless and electric.

Blender Functions

After you have determined what blender type you want, the next important decision you have to make regarding how to buy a blender is the functions which you want your blender to possess.

If you want to have a blender which will mainly make frozen drinks and smoothies for you and your friends, you should choose a blender that has a minimum 500 watts power as well as an ice crushing blade. These blenders can be bought as a lower powered personal model or the full sized blender. If you will be using your blender to chop or grind food, you will need a blender which contains a chopping blade as well as processing functions. Your last option is to get a standard blender that can be enough for most blender functions such as stirring, mixing, pureeing, and blending for creaming soups or making food for the baby.

Blender Pitcher

Aside from varying in functions, blenders can also vary with regards to the capacity. For this reason, you should choose a blender which will best suit your requirements. A blender pitcher normally comes in either glass or plastic. If you do not have the money for the higher end models, then you can simply choose the plastic jar.

Also, make sure that your pitcher has a curved pouring spout so that all of the mixture you have blended will be put to good use. This is because the blenders that have a flat design can make pouring a difficult and messy task. You will have to use the jar’s corner so you can pour the items onto a glass. But this cannot be done without any dripping.

Blender Quality

Once you have made your choice, it is time to compare the different blender models and brands which are available to you. At this point, you should remember how much your budget is since there are really pretty blenders that can outshine the rest, but are way out of your budget. With this, you should choose a material which can last you for a long time without scratching or shattering easily.

One way to help you make your decision is to go online and check out the product reviews. Before you make a purchase, you should compare each blender model and brands as well as their reviews so that you can guarantee you have gotten the best available blender.

You should also choose the blender with the right voltage. If you will be using your blender a lot, then you will need to get a blender that has a higher wattage. Other important things you have to remember are:

Price

Ease for Cleaning

Design

Storage Capacity

When you have followed the above tips, you can guarantee that you have chosen a blender which will last you several years. For more information, you can check out the below articles to help you make your decision on blenders.

If you have just recently received a blender or bought one, you might be asking how to use a blender? While it might be an exciting idea to start whipping up those recipes you found on how you can make a milkshake, pesto sauce, or any other food that requires the use of a blender, you might want to postpone that idea. This is because there are some limitations regarding blenders and what they can only do. So unless you want your blender to last you a long time, you really have to take care of it.

If your blender did not come with a manual or a product information sheet, you should presume that your blender is only capable of blending, pureeing, stirring and mixing liquids, soft foods and thin batters. Soft means cooked foods or the raw vegetables and fruits such as tomatoes, peppers, onions, and mushrooms. But if your blender is capable of crushing ice and has the functions for food processing, then you can enjoy your kitchen equipment up to its best potential.

Once you have established the things that your blender can do, it is now time to learn how to use a blender and be able to enjoy its features. For more information, read on below so you can get acquainted with your new kitchen toy.

Before starting to use your blender, you must first choose a dry and flat surface where your blender can be operated. Follow the instructions on the manual for putting your blender together in one effective piece. Once you have done this, make sure that you have properly attached its parts or else the liquid juices that you are blending will leak out of your equipment.

After you have set up your blender, you can already enjoy using it by simply plugging in your blender and attaching the pitcher onto its base. By following a certain recipe for something that you are making, you should put the ingredients into the pitcher and lastly put the lid firmly. The reason why you must never forget to attach the lid is because the items inside the pitcher have a tendency to spill out of the pitcher if there is no lid. This is due to the circular motion and fast speed which the blades of the blender are causing. Without the lid, even just the smallest amount of food inside the pitcher can create a huge mess. Also, even if you have snugly attached the lid, it is still important for you to hold down the lid while you are operating your blender.

There are some blenders that have a pulse button. And this is good since it is often sufficient enough for a lot of the blending tasks you will need. You should not let your blender have an extended time of necessary operation. This is because not all blenders have been equipped with a protection against overload.

When you are blending something, you should always leave at least one third free capacity or more for expansion. This is so that your blender will not get overcrowded and spill over the top. In addition, the liquid ingredients should be first placed into the pitcher before the other ingredients. And speaking of ingredients, the food and vegetable items required should be cut into small portions so that they can circulate around the blender’s blades.

By simply following the above mentioned tips, you can enjoy the full potential of your blender. Who knows, it might even be your next best friend in the kitchen!

If you are one of the more curious people who are wondering “how do blenders work,” then it is a good idea that you have stumbled upon this article. This is because we will be discussing how these kitchen equipments operate in order to provide their service to us.

Through the years, blenders have certainly come a very long way from the original idea. They are now also helping us prepare food faster and easier. Because there are 14 different speed types and pulse actions which blenders come equipped with, they have created an array of texture and flavour variety to the foods we make. The 14 pulse actions which make up the blender include: stir, puree, aerate, chop, blend, crumb, grate, beat, grind, whip, liquefy and even to crush ice. And because of these 14 actions, they have made our kitchen work easier and not only limited to making milkshakes or smoothies. Because now, we can make homemade puree vegetables and fruits, sauces and even salad dressings.

Certainly, blenders have gone far from the first time they were invented in the early parts of the 1900s. Originally, they were made to help meet people’s demands for malted milk drinks that were prescribed by the physicians in order to help build up one’s strength. And because this kitchen equipment is able to whip up ice cream concoctions, they have quickly become famous for making soda fountains. But it wasn’t until the year 1937, that these blenders became famous the usage of today in order to produce cocktails.

Aside from the kitchen, blenders are also versatile appliances which can be used for the business, home and even in the laboratories such as in Jonas Salk’s invention for the polio vaccination. This equipment is famous in research laboratories for the industries under microbiology since the researchers use the equipment for extracting bacteria from some samples.

But amidst all of its diverse features, how do blenders work, really?

Blenders normally consist of a glass or plastic pitcher which is locked onto the large base. This pitcher then requires its own rubber sealed lid so that the food inside can be prevented from spraying out. The base, which has been mentioned earlier, is composed of a motor which is connected to a blade. This blade is then responsible for all the crushing, chopping, blending and the other actions of a blender. The blade is constructed with 2-4 very sharp stainless steel blades which spin. When the blender is plugged in and filled with the ingredients, the operator will press a button or turn a dial, depending on the speed and the blade’s rotation which is needed.

The only time the blade will spin is when the blender has been plugged. This is also the time the blades will slice, crush, blend all of the items which it comes in contact with inside the pitcher. In addition, blenders will only work when they have been properly taken care of. Before you use your blender, you have to make sure that the pitcher has been securely locked into place and the lid has been secured tightly.

When operating your blender, you will have to know some important facts. This information can be gotten by checking out the articles below.
